Analysis & Outlook

There’s no bigger spotlight than in New York and HC Rex Ryan seems to enjoy it. After a very respectable season as rookie HC, Ryan and the Jets will host the HBO crew for this year’s version of “Hard Knocks”.

The Jets will have to get more explosive on offense though if they want to take that next step. They let RB Thomas Jones go but signed LaDainian Tomlinson and Leon Washington will be back as well. Washington is a good value play as a 3rd down back, receiver and return guy.

On defense, the Jets got another ex-Charger, CB Antonio Cromartie who will need to show his play-making abilities again after a rather poor season. I’m expecting the Jets to extend depth along the defensive line and in the secondary on what is already a very good defense.

In the first round, look for the Jets to focus on getting an offensive playmaker at the WR position like Demaryius Thomas, Arrelious Benn or Golden Tate. In the second round, I expect them to go after a defensive lineman, either a NT to replace Kris Jenkins at some point or a 5-technique. Guys I like are Tyson Alualu and Cam Thomas. They’ll target DBs, LBs and O-Linemen in rounds 4-7.

The Jets have a good team, but I don’t think they’re powerful enough on offense to go all the way. LaDainian Tomlinson will bring tremendous leadership to a fairly young offense, and this team will get better.
