Analysis & Outlook

The Jaguars just won’t take off, will they? They had a good season a while back when they had the easiest schedule, but if you look at HC Jack Del Rio’s W-L record (57-55), then they’ve been mostly mediocre and not a contender. They need to start winning more games soon or there will be a regime change soon.

Offensively, they really need a playmaker. They’ve missed on a bunch of first round WRs and WR Torry Holt didn’t perform well last year. The offense revolves mostly around RB Maurice Jones-Drew but there’s a lack of balance. They’re starting to put together a good O-Line, now they need plays and players who can make use of that.

Defensively, the Jaguars were appalling, ranking in the bottom half. Their lack of a pass rush and a generally weak group of players makes it a point of concern. Signing DE Aaron Kampman will be a boost though.

The Jaguars also face the problem that they don’t have many draft picks this year. Unless they trade down to get more picks, this will be a major factor. Either way, they’ll need playmakers and their options include LB Rolando McClain, S Earl Thomas and WR Dez Bryant. If they trade down to get a second round pick, they might even be able to land QB Tim Tebow, but as it stands, they’ll have to look for some defensive playmakers with their mid round picks. The focus will be all over the defense as they work their draft board to find help.

It’s make-or-break for the Jaguars. The stadium won’t fill up with people looking to see a team lose. But I don’t think it’ll be this season. It will be an uphill struggle in a division where even the Texans have overtaken them in overall quality.
