Analysis & Outlook

The start of last season sure made HC Josh McDaniels look smug, but the team collapsed toward the end, finishing 8-8 and missing the playoffs, again. The departure of DC Mike Nolan was also just plain weird, but the Broncos are moving forward.

On the defensive side, they’re bringing in more talent to anchor that D-Line and they have to after ranking 27th in run defense last season. They’ll also look to add a LB to play next to D.J. Williams. In the secondary, this would be a great time to bring in some young players who can learn from S Brian Dawkins and CB Champ Bailey.

On the offensive side, there are more questions than answers. Who will be the QB? What will RB Knowshon Moreno’s role be? Will WR Brandon Marshall still be there? There’s still a possibility that the Broncos will target a QB in this draft, but look for it to be a middle round pick. If Marshall is dealt, expect the Broncos to use that extra first round pick to target a replacement.

In the first round, WR is a strong option if Dez Bryant is available, but I can definitely see them targeting LB Rolando McClain to help on defense. They’ll look at the S and CB positions in rounds two and three, and as mentioned, it’s possible they’ll target a QB like Zac Robinson or Jevan Snead in round four.

The Broncos aren’t a bad team but there’s not enough stability yet in my opinion for them to become a serious contender. We’ll need to revisit the team’s chances once there’s more clarity on the roles on offense.
